Turnover at Dhaka bourse hits 18-day low
Turnover at the Dhaka bourse hit an 18-day low today although its index bounced back adding 14 points.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), edged up or 0.19 per cent to 7,205.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, decreased around 13 per cent to Tk 1,765 crore, down from Tk 2,033 crore a day earlier.
Earlier, turnover dropped to Tk 1,846 crore on August 29.
Many investors adopted a wait-and-see policy as the benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse was hovering around its highest level, said a stock broker.
Far Chemical Industries topped the gainers' list that rose 10 per cent followed by RN Spinning Mills, Bangladesh National Insurance, Eastern Insurance, and Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag.
Bangladesh Monospool Paper Manufacturing shed mostly in the market that fell 8.73 per cent followed by Paper Processing & Packaging, Janata Bank First Mutual Fund, EBL First Mutual Fund, and Dominage Steel Building Systems.
At the DSE, 174 stocks rose, 163 declined and 37 remained unchanged.
Stocks of Beximco Ltd traded mostly that worth Tk 123 crore followed by LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Rupali Insurance, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, and Alif Industries.
The Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) also rose today. The CASPI, the general index of the port city bourse, edged up 47 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 21,030.
Among 325 traded stocks, 156 advanced, 131 fell and 38 remained unchanged.
