Stocks bounce back despite hartal
Stocks bounced back today despite an ongoing dawn-to-dusk hartal called by Hefazat-e-Islam.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose 7.58 points, or 0.14 per cent, to stand at 5,334.79.
Investors panicked by the rising infections of Covid-19 have been pulling down the index that dropped 86 points in the previous two days, said a stock broker.
However, some investors are buying stocks to cash in on the fall of the index, he said, adding the hartal has little impact on the index.
As of 1 pm today, 122 stocks rose, 73 dropped and 144 remained unchanged.
Turnover, an important indicator of the stock market, was Tk 221.8 crore at that moment.
