Jahangir Alam elected BSMA president

Mohammad Jahangir Alam has been elected president of the Bangladesh Steel Manufacturers Association (BSMA), while Sumon Chowdhury was elected secretary general for the 2025–26 and 2026–27 terms.

The election was held at the association's 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Banani Club in Dhaka on Saturday, according to a press release.

At the AGM, members also elected the new executive council. Muhammad Shahidullah was chosen as senior vice-president, while Amer Ali Hossain, Md Abdus Salam and Maruf Mohsin were elected vice-presidents.

Furkan Mohammad N Hossain and Md Zakaria (Zaki) were elected joint secretaries, while Md Saifur Rahman Khokon was named finance director.

Soumitra Kumar Mutsuddi was elected international affairs director, Shahriar Jahan organising director, and Mohammad Sarwar Alam publicity director.

In addition, Sheikh Masadul Alam Masud, Mohammad Israil, Ashraf Siddiqui, Sayan Siraj and Md Hasan Mia were elected directors.

BSMA leaders said the newly elected council would work to strengthen the steel sector, promote sustainable growth and address challenges facing the industry in the coming years.
