Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today expressed discontent regarding the progress of National Board of Revenue's (NBR) tax system automation.

While presenting awards and tax cards to top taxpayers today, he said, "I promised the automation to the people; I promised it to the prime minister as well. But there is no progress yet."

He urged the NBR officials to work on automating the system right away. "Someone has to take charge if we are to do away with such practice," he said referring to the delay.

"People of the country want to pay taxes, but we can't receive it from them. We have to take the taxes," the minister added.

Finance minister also noted that the tax-GDP ratio was 10 percent in the previous years, and the ratio remains the same. "If we can't increase our revenue collection, our dreams of becoming a developed nation will remain only a dream." he added.
