DHL Express adds 18 EVs to cut emissions
DHL Express Bangladesh has added 18 new electric vehicles (EVs) to its pickup and delivery (PUD) fleet, aiming to reduce fleet-related greenhouse gas emissions.
The transition is expected to cut fleet-related greenhouse gas emissions by about 28 percent, the company said in a press release.
The newly inducted EVs replace internal combustion engine (ICE) vans, marking another milestone in DHL Express’s fleet electrification journey in Bangladesh.
Peter Bardens, senior vice-president of network operation at DHL Express APEC, inaugurated the vehicles in Dhaka on Tuesday as the chief guest.
“DHL Express pioneered the introduction of the country’s first commercially operated electric delivery vehicle in 2023. With this latest addition, we are accelerating our transition to more sustainable logistics operations,” said Md Miarul Haque, managing director of DHL Express Bangladesh.
He said the company is also encouraged by the growing number of customers signing up for its GoGreen Plus service, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
“We remain committed to expanding our sustainability efforts through continued investment in sustainable technologies and initiatives,” he added.
After introducing the country’s first commercially operated electric delivery van in 2023, the company now plans to expand its electric fleet to 39 vehicles by the end of 2026, accounting for nearly half of its PUD fleet.
As part of DHL Group’s global sustainability strategy, the company targets to electrify at least 66 percent of its PUD fleet by 2030.
The fleet expansion reflects the growing momentum of electric mobility in Bangladesh and supports wider adoption of commercial EVs in the country’s logistics sector, the release added.
