41% boro harvested in haors
About 41 per cent of boro paddy has already been harvested in haor areas as of April 20, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Of these, 38 per cent has been harvested in Kishoreganj while 73 per cent in Netrokona, 29 per cent in Brahmanbaria, 37 per cent in Sylhet, 36 per cent in Moulvibazar, 25 per cent in Habiganj and 42 per cent in Sunamganj, data collected by DAE showed.
This season, boro paddy has been cultivated in 452,138 hectares of land in the seven haor districts. Besides, boro has been planted in 498,180 hectares of land in non-haor areas in the districts, it said.
With this, boro has been cultivated in total of 950,318 hectares of land in haor and non-haor areas in the districts, according to DAE.
Out of this, paddy of 9,700 hectares of land has been affected by recent heavy rains and upstream hill water, which is 1 per cent of total cultivation, agriculture ministry said in a press release today.
Meanwhile, the ministry has instructed the farmers to harvest all 80 per cent matured paddy in haor areas soon considering the heavy rains, upstream hill water and hostile weather.
The ministry said it has provided all necessary assistance to the farmers for speedy harvesting of matured paddy.
At present, about 1,100 combine harvesters and 500 reapers are being used to harvest paddy in haor areas. Of which, 350 combine harvesters are brought from the nearby districts, the ministry said.
