PM for gradually moving away from subsidy: Planning Minister

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has advised to gradually move away from subsidy, Planning Minister MA Mannan said today after emerging from the weekly meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).

"Subsidy, Subsidy, Subsidy! For how long? Elaborate discussion was held on the issue. Subsidy is not justified. Subsidy is not a charity," the minister said at a press briefing.

"Subsidy is a gravely serious issue. We must move away from this system," he said.

"It's an advice for all -- on behalf of the prime minister. We must devise strategies to eliminate subsidies," he added.
