Closure of jute mills: Workers in Khulna demand arrears, reopening of factories

Star Digital Report

Workers of two Khulna jute mills which were earlier shut down today demonstrated demanding reopening of closed mills and payment of all dues.

They also demanded full bonus of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha as per the wage commission.

The workers came up with the demands at a human chain progarmme held in front of Khalishpur Jute Mill gate of BIDC road in Khulna city today.

Daulatpur Jute Mill Factory Committee and Khalishpur Jute Mill Factory Committee jointly organised the programme, reports our Khulna correspondent.

Speaking at the programme, Alamgir Kabir, general secretary of Khalishpur Jute Mill Factory Committee said they have been passing a tough time following the closure of state-run jute mills.

He said the government will have to reopen closed state-owned jute mills and to pay all dues quickly.

The state needs to play a special role to keep the jute sector alive, the worker leader said.
