BIMSTEC officials visit Bangabandhu's mausoleum at Tungipara

Officials of BIMSTEC Secretariat have paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Father of the Nation, at his mausoleum in Tungipara, Gopalganj.

The officials led by BIMSTEC Secretary General Ambassador M Shahidul Islam laid a floral wreath at Bangabandhu's mausoleum and offered prayers for eternal peace of departed soul of this great leader, and peace and prosperity of Bangladesh, a press release said today.

Secretary General Shahidul was accompanied by his wife Jesmeen Islam, and directors and other officials of the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka, the release said. 

He also signed the visitors' book kept at the mausoleum. "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a great statesman, who not only liberated the Bengali nation but also became a symbol of struggle for emancipation of the oppressed and disenfranchised all over the world," the Secretary General wrote. 

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) comprises of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand with a total population of 1.68 billion.
