Attempted rape on female YouTuber in bus, two held

A female YouTuber faced attempted rape inside a bus, allegedly by two of its staffers in Gazipur on Saturday night.

The 18-year-old content creator of a YouTube channel was returning to her residence in Uttara on an Anabil Paribahan bus from Signboard area in Narayanganj when the incident took place, said police.

Two bus staffers -- driver Al Amin, 29, and his assistant Mujibur Rahman, 22 -- were arrested in this connection.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bason Police Station in Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said the girl boarded the bus around 11:00pm and she was the only passenger in the bus when it reached near Uttara's House Building area.

She was supposed to disembark there but the bus driver sped the vehicle to Gazipur's Nawroz area, ignoring her calls to stop the bus, he added quoting the young woman.   

They parked the bus in an isolated area and tried to rape the girl. As she screamed for help, locals rushed there, caught them, and handed them over to police after beating them up, the official said.

A case was filed with Bason Police Station yesterday and a Gazipur court sent the accused to jail after police produced them before it.
