Woman tortured by husband, in-laws in Dinajpur

Police yesterday arrested the husband and two in-laws of a woman for torturing and leaving her critically injured at Kashipur village of the district.

The arrestees Sirajul Islam, 42, his sister Lyli Begum, 34, and her husband Abu Bakkar Siddique, 41, had allegedly dabbed the victim's private parts with red chilli powder. They were sent to jail by a court.

Quoting family members, police said Sirajul had an altercation with his wife Wednesday morning. At one point, the husband shouted "talak" thrice. He later tried to force the victim along with their three children out of home.

As the victim refused to leave, Sirajul, Lyli and Bakkar began to torture her.

Hearing her screams for help, locals rushed to the scene and rescued her and took her to a hospital, Fakhrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Sadar Police Station, said.

Hasnat Parvez, indoor medical officer of the hospital, said the woman's injuries were life threatening.
