Primary terminal exams begin Nov 20

Primary and Ebtedai terminal examinations for class-V students of schools and madrasas will begin across the country on November 20 with over 32 lakh examinees taking part.

The tests, considered as the largest public exam in the country, will end on November 27.

Of the total candidates, 29,30,573 students are from primary schools and 2,99,775 from madrasas, said Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman at a press briefing at the secretariat.

However, the number of examinees decreased by 24,266.

The examinees will take examinations of six subjects in six days with English on the first day at 11:00am.

Asked whether the terminal examinations will be scrapped, as the primary level was extended up to class-VIII, the minister said the test would continue until the cabinet gives a decision on it.

"Since the terminal exam was introduced as per the decision of the cabinet, it will go on until the cabinet gives further decision," he said.

The primary terminal examination was introduced in 2009. The test for the students of ebtedai madrasas began the following year. The result was published in division in the first two years, but later it was in the grading system.

The students must pass the exams for enrolment in class-VI. On the basis of the results, scholarships will be equally distributed under talent pool and general categories.
