Officer-in-charge of Poba Police Station in Rajshahi was withdrawn yesterday for arbitrating a case of gang rape.

OC Shariful Islam was also transferred to the district police headquarters after the allegation was found to be true in a primary probe, said an official of the office of superintendent of Rajshahi police, preferring anonymity.

Sumit Chowdhury, an additional SP (special branch), investigated the allegation on November 20 and recorded statement of the victim.

The victim told the SP that she went to the police station to file a case of gang rape on May 30 and the OC refused to record the case. The next day, he called her to the police station and tried to settle the incident, giving her Tk 47,000 as compensation.

She also told the investigator that she learnt that the OC took Tk 1.20 lakh from the accused.

She alleged that her fiancé along with three other accomplices raped her after her fiancé took her to an unknown place near Nawhata in Poba on May 29, promising her to marry.
