No recruitment exams held at JS complex

Jatiya Party lawmaker Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury yesterday refuted the allegation that recruitment exams for the vice-principal and lecturer posts at Phulbari Mohila Degree College were held at the parliament building.

“The exams were held at my parliament office at the MP Hostel which is outside the parliament building complex,” he told The Daily Star yesterday.

Tajul is also the opposition chief whip in parliament.

A Bangla Daily in a report yesterday said the MP, also chairman of the governing body of the college, and Principal Sujat Hossain of the college took several lakh taka from some jobseekers.

The exams were held at Tajul's office at the MP Hostel on Monday to ensure selection of particular candidates, added the report.

The lawmaker claimed he was too sick to visit Phulbari for holding the written and viva-voce exams there.

Tajul further said he took into consideration violation of the electoral code of conduct of the Kurigram District Council polls which is slated for today. Electoral rules bars lawmaker from staying in the districts for a stipulated period.

About entertaining the job applicants, he said the jobseekers were served with food at the LD Hall at the Parliament Members Club as they were from his constituency (Kurigram-2).

He rejected outright the allegation of taking money from candidates.

Three vice-principal hopefuls were present at Tajul's city residence yesterday when this correspondent met the lawmaker. The three are Moinul Haq Khandaker, Mukul Hossain Pramanik and Golam Wadud.

Pointing at the three candidates, Tajul said any of the three would be picked as the vice-principal.

Talking to this newspaper at her parliament office, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday said no exams were held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
