Says Fakhrul

The BNP yesterday alleged that the government has chosen the path of "nasty politics to distort history" in order to cling to power.

"The incumbent government is doing dirty politics. It is making up false stories about Ziaur Rahman and his contributions to the Liberation War," said the party's General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Addressing a virtual press conference from his residence, Fakhrul alleged  that the government has destroyed the spirit of the Liberation War and established fascism in the country.

"The ruling party is distorting history…," he alleged.

Fakhrul said that followers of Zia and Khaleda Zia rejected the state sponsored conspiracy and vowed to resist through systematic politics.

The BNP leader further alleged that the government is trying to involve Ziaur Rahman in the August 15 killing.

"The case of killing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members has  already been resolved in court and nothing was found regarding Ziaur Rahman's involvement," he said.

Fakhrul said neither Ziaur Rahman nor his close associates were accused of the case.

"But now they [ruling Awami League] are conspiring to implicate Ziaur Rahman."

Fakhrul alleged that a video containing "false and baseless hate speech" by Bangabandhu's convicted killer Abdul Majed was recorded "illegally" in custody before his execution and the government has forced the media to air it and made it viral on social media by recruiting a paid cyber force.

"This move could lead to new controversies over the judicial process and the verdict. Such an illegal move is, in fact, nothing more than bad politics."

He said the propaganda against Ziaur Rahman by airing killer Majed's statement is purely a politically motivated lie.

"Historical facts cannot be denied by putting a gun to Majed's neck."
