‘Drug dealer’ killed in a ‘shootout’
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a "shootout" with Rab in the capital's Agargaon area yesterday morning.
The dead, Kabir, 45, was from Gazipur's Shreepur upazila, said Mohammed Mohiduddin Faruqe, a company commander of Rab-2.
He was accused in at least 13 cases, including drugs cases, filed with different police stations, the Rab official said.
Rab members signalled Kabir to stop his motorcycle at a check-point set up in Agargaon Link Road area around 5:30am.
Kabir opened fire on them from the moving bike, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, Faruqe said.
Kabir caught multiple gunshots during the incident and was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Rab claimed to have recovered a firearm, some bullets and 30,000 pieces of yaba from the spot.
Two Rab men were injured during the "shootout", Rab claimed.
