Another doctor dies from Covid-19

Another doctor who was diagnosed with Covid-19 died at a city hospital yesterday.

Dr Nirmalendu Chowdhury, former director of Institute of Public Health in Dhaka, passed away around 2:00pm in the capital's Asgar Ali Hospital.

He was 62.

His son Dr Mithun Chowdhury mentioned his death on a Facebook post around 2:00pm.

Dr Mily Dey, director of Bangladesh Doctors' Foundation (BDF) Trust, said at least 100 doctors, including Nirmalendu, have so far died with Covid-19 infection.

Dr Nirmalendu, from Bogura's Dupchanchia upazila, was infected with Covid-19 a month ago and put on life support at Asgar Ali hospital on August 24.

He was also a former deputy director of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

According to BDF, apart from 100 doctors' deaths from Covid-19, 11 others passed away showing Covid-19 like symptoms.

At least, 2,768 doctors have so far been infected with the virus.
