AL man killed over cable TV trade in Ctg

An AL man was killed and another injured as two groups armed with sharp weapons clashed over cable TV business in Lalkhan Bazar area of Chattogram yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Md Didar, 25, police said, adding that one Salahuddin Lavlu, 26, was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

According to police sources, of the two groups involved, one was led by Didarul Alam Masum, general secretary of Awami League's Lalkhan Bazar ward unit, and the other by Belal, belonging to the AL faction of former CCC mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

They said Masum is of the AL faction led by Chittagong Mayor AJM Nasiruddin. 

Locals said the two had been feuding for months.

Yesterday's clash began when members of Masum's group hacked one Salahuddin Lavlu, an activist of Belal group, in the evening.

Afterwards, some men from Belal group attacked Masum's men, leaving Didar critically injured.

Didar succumbed to his injuries around 7:30pm.

Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (north zone) Hasan Mohammad Shawkat Ali said police were conducting drives to arrest suspects.

Assistant Commissioner (Bayezid Zone) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Md Sohel Rana said, “We reached the spot right after the incident. More officers have been deployed in the area to avoid any more untoward incidents.”
