Two minor girls were allegedly raped in Brahmanbaria and Jashore on Thursday, and two suspects were detained in these connections.

In Brahmanbaria, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Sonarampur village of Ashuganj upazila on Thursday evening.

Police later detained Liton Mia, 25, a rickshaw puller, in this connection.

Javed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station, told The Daily Star that the girl was playing near a rice mill in Sonarumpur village. At that time, Liton came there and took her to a paddy field where he raped her.

"The accused fled leaving the victim in the field. On information, victim's mother rescued her in a critical condition and took her to the police station," he said.

The OC added that legal action would be taken against Liton if the victim's family filed any written complaint against him.

The girl is undergoing treatment at 250-bed Brahmanbaria General Hospital.

In another incident, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her relative in Gaidghat village of Jashore's Bagharpara on Thursday evening.

The accused is Abu Zafar Mollah, 60.

The girl and the accused are living in the same house. Zafar raped her when she was alone at home, said police.

The victim then notified her family of the incident. Her father filed a case against Zafar with Bagharpara Police Station at night.

Syed Al-Mamun, OC of Bagharpara Police Station, said the girl was sent to Jashore General Hospital for medical tests.

Police arrested Zafar after the case was lodged.
