Mob beats 2 robbers to death
A mob in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila early yesterday beat two alleged robbers of a gang to death.
One of the deceased is Komol Das, 53, of Kola village in Natore's Gurudaspur upazila. The identity of the other could not be known.
Police and locals said a gang of 10 to 12 robbers committed robberies at several houses at Agdhalla, Katora and Ufulki villages in Jamurki union in the early hours of yesterday. The gang took cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from the houses holding the occupants of the houses at gunpoint.
As they were committing robbery at a house in Agdhalla, the family members screamed for help. Locals then surrounded and chased the robbers who fired shots in the air to make a getaway.
Three of the gang members, however, were caught and beaten up at Agdhalla.
Being informed, a team of Mirzapur police went to the spot, recovered the injured robbers and took them to Kumudini Hospital.
Two of them died of their injuries at the hospital around 11:30am, said Mohammad Main Uddin, officer-in-charge of Mirzapur Police Station.
The condition of the other injured -- Nek Mahmud, 40, of Chawhali in Sirajganj --was critical, he said.
