Khadiza now responding

Khadiza Begum Nargis, undergoing treatment at Square Hospitals in the capital, was shifted to High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the hospital yesterday as her condition is improving gradually, doctors said.

“She is able to respond when addressed and can also open her eyes slightly,” Rejaus Sattar, a neurosurgeon of the Square Hospitals told The Daily Star.

The doctor also said she is able to move her right limbs although she cannot move her left ones yet.

“Within two or three months we will be able to say whether she will be able to move the left ones. We are hopeful about her recovery,” he said.

On October 3, Khadiza, a student of Sylhet Government Women's College, was hacked multiple times by Badrul Alam, a Chhatra League leader and fourth-year student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology after she reportedly refused his romantic advances.

The 23-year-old girl was admitted to Square Hospitals in critical condition.

She was in a coma when admitted to the hospital and was on life support till Thursday. She was shifted from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) yesterday.
