Khadem Killing: 12 JMB men indicted

A Rangpur court framed charges against 12 members of the outlawed militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) yesterday for killing Khadem Rahmat Ali in Kaunia upazila on November 10, 2015.

A special court framed the charges after a hearing in the presence of six militants.

The next hearing of the case is to be held on August 23, a public prosecutor said quoting the judge.

Officials of Kaunia Police Station filed a charge-sheet against 14 suspected JMB men on July 3 last year in the case.

The men are: Masud Rana, Ihsat Ali, Liton Mia, Abu Syeed, Saddam Hossain, Nazrul Islam, Shakhwat Hossain, Sarwar Hossain, Sahdat Hossain, Toufiqul Islam, Rajibul Islam, Chandu Mia, Babul Master, and Jahangir Hossain.

Police arrested nine of these men while two others were killed during shootouts. Three of accused are on the run.

Police said Nazrul Islam and Saddam Hossain were killed during gunfights with law enforcers last year.

Masud Rana, Liton Mia and Abu Syeed and Shakhwat Hossain were handed death sentences for killing Japanese national Kunio Hoshi in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur on October 3 the same year.
