Just one slap by BCL leader perforates cop's eardrum
A policeman was assaulted by a Chhatra League leader over issuance of a fake medical certificate at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital yesterday.
Aktar Hossain Dhali, 27, vice president of the BCL's Shariatpur Sadar upazila unit, slapped the cop across the face during an altercation, causing perforation of his eardrum.
The incident took place when Shariatpur Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Alamgir Hossain Hawladar along with his nephew Dhali and some others went to the chamber of Dr Debashish Saha at the hospital and demanded he issue a fake medical certificate to one Hossain Khandaker.
As the physician refused to comply, Dhali verbally abused him in presence of nayek Md Selim Matabbar who went there for a medical check-up, reports our Shariatpur correspondent quoting Debashish.
Selim, a guard of the district deputy commissioner's residence, tried to stop the altercation between Dhali and the doctor. All of a sudden, Dhali slapped him across the face, leaving the cop injured.
The 42-year-old was admitted to the hospital. ENT specialist Dr Imran Khan, who was involved in the cop's treatment, said Selim's eardrum was perforated. He was referred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Dhali went into hiding following the incident. Police were trying to arrest him, said Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Saifullah Al Mamun.
Law enforcers raided a private clinic owned by Alamgir to arrest Dhali. Later, the clinic was sealed and its patients were shifted to Sadar hospital, the SP added.
Civil Surgeon of Shariatpur Moshiur Rahman said Dhali used to force doctors to issue fake medical certificates and if anyone refused to comply, he would swoop on him.
OC Khalilur Rahman of Shariatpur Police Station said they preparing a case against Dhali for assaulting the cop and harassing the doctor.
