Distorting History: House passes resolution to enact law

Parliament unanimously adopted a resolution aimed at enacting a law to punish those who distort the history of Liberation War and the mass killing during the period.

Awami League lawmaker Fazilatun Nasa Bappy submitted the resolution in the House, which was adopted by a voice vote.

Law Minister Anisul Huq said his ministry had drafted a law titled "Bangladesher Muktijudder Itihas Bikritikoron Oporadh Ain" to prevent distortion of the history of 1971.

The draft bill will be placed before the cabinet soon and will be passed in the ongoing parliament, he added.

Bappy's resolution said, “Those who deny the mass killing do not believe in the country's independence and sovereignty. They don't respect our constitution. So, they must be punished..."

Anisul Huq hailed the resolution saying the lawmaker's statement in the proposal was "historical truth".
