Couple killed in car crash
A married couple were killed and four other members of their family injured in a road accident yesterday in Solonga area of Sirajganj.
Shakhawat Hossain, 35, an assistant engineer of Walton Group, and his wife Halima Akter, 30, died on the spot after his self-driven car flipped over and skidded off the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in Solonga area.
The injured were identified as Dweep, 8, son of the deceased couple; Shakhawat's parents Abu Bakar Siddique, 65, and Saleha Khatun, 55; and his sister Tuli Khatun, 25.
Among the injured, Shakhawat's 8-year-old son and his father were in a critical state, said Aktaruzzaman, resident medical officer at Sirajganj General Hospital, where all injured were taken for treatment following the mishap.
One of the front wheels of the car exploded suddenly and Shakhawat, from Kalihati of Tangail, lost control of the vehicle near Charia point on the highway, said Abdul Kader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station
The incident took place when Shakhawat and his family members were on their way to visit their relatives in Chatmohar of Pabna.
Police rushed to the spot immediately and sent the survivors to Sirajganj General Hospital, the OC added.
