Chinese Man Murder: 2 suspects give confessional statements

Two suspects in Chinese businessman murder confessed to killing the man before a Jessore court yesterday.

They are Nazmul Hassan Parvez, 24, and his nephew Muktadir Rahman, 21. Both were employees of the victim, Chang Hi Sung, 42.

The duo confessed before the court that they had killed Chang for embezzling some money from his business, said Ilias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

Meanwhile, victim's wife Li Ing applied to the court for taking his body which was at Jessore General Hospital mortuary.

Nazmul, who was an interpreter for Chang, also handled his financial matters, said Anisur Rahman, superintendent of Jessore police.

He added that the two had a dispute over an alleged misappropriation of money from Chang's business.

Following the dispute, Nazmul along with Muktadir hit Chang on the head with an iron rod and then strangled him to death, Anisur told The Daily Star.

The duo then left the body inside a toilet at the warehouse of the Chinese national's business in New Town area and fled.

When Chang's wife Li Ing, who lives in the capital's Uttara, could not reach him over the phone, she called Nazmul who told her that Chang had gone missing.

On Li's instructions, Nazmul went to Kotwali Police Station to inform police about the matter.

Suspecting his involvement in the crime, police detained Nazmul immediately. Based on his information, police then detained Muktadir. Both of them later admitted to police that they had murdered Chang, police said.

Chang had been running his import business of electric auto-rickshaw batteries in Jessore for the last couple of years.
