UP chairman held over temple attacks
Police yesterday arrested a newly-elected union parishad chairman in a case filed in connection with attacks on two temples in Nargun union of Sadar upazila.
The arrestee is Poigam Ali, chairman of Nargun union.
Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said criminals swooped on Pokati Durga Temple and nearby Kali Temple in the early hours of yesterday.
They then set fire to a Kali idol and a Durga idol.
Police asked the chairman to come to the police station in the afternoon and arrested him after a case was filed in this connection.
Superintendent of Police in Thakurgaon Farhat Ahmed visited the temples.
