Bus crash kills 7 in Tangail
At least seven people were killed and 25 others injured when a bus ended up in a ditch while trying to overtake a vehicle in Haripur area on Tangail-Mymensingh highway last night.
Quoting injured bus passengers, Amir Hossain, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ghatail Police Station, said the accident happened in Ghatail upazila around 9:30pm. The bus was heading for Dhanbari.
Asma Akter, 40, Chandan, 24, Abdur Rahim, 50, Nur-a-Alam, 30, Ranju Ahmed, 40, Moniruzzaman Sabuj, 33, and Shanta Begum, 25, died on the spot.
Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel from different stations in Tangail went to the spot and launched a rescue operation with the help of police and locals, the OC said.
At least 22 bus passengers were taken to Ghatail Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries, the police officer added.
Nine of the injured were later referred to other hospitals for better treatment and as their condition deteriorated, hospital sources said.
