BGB detains 5 Myanmarese intruders

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh arrested five Myanmar nationals, including two women and two children, from a border of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat early yesterday.

They are Abdul Hamid, 25, Noor Begum, 26, her son Rezaul Karim, 7, Hamida Begum, 22, and her one-year-old son.

The BGB officials did not disclose the name of the place from where they came.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of 20 BGB Battalion in Joypurhat raided Koya border in Panchbibi around 4:00am and caught them before fleeing to India. 

Lt Col Mostafizur Rahman, commanding officer of Joypurhat 20 BGB Battalion, said the Myanmar nationals entered Bangladesh through Teknaf of Cox's Bazar illegally and reached Koya border to flee to India.

The BGB handed them over to the police after interrogating them, said the BGB official.

Police produced the arrestees before a Joypurhat court which sent them to jail, said Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station.
