Bank Asia chairman honoured
A Rouf Chowdhury, chairman of Bank Asia, has been honoured with a prestigious lifetime achievement award by the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI).
David Gauke, chief secretary to the Treasury of the UK, handed over the trophy as part of the “Business and Entrepreneur Excellence Award 2016” to Chowdhury at a function at London Hilton on Park Lane on Sunday, Bank Asia said in a statement issued yesterday.
Rushanara Ali and Rupa Huq, members of the UK parliament, Md Nazmul Quaunine, high commissioner of Bangladesh to the UK; Iqbal Ahmed OBE, chairman of the UKBCCI; Bajloor Rashid MBE, president of the UKBCCI; Zakia Rouf Chowdhury, wife of the Bank Asia chairman, and his son Romo Rouf Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
A graduate in business management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, Rouf Chowdhury started his business in 1980. He has set up as many as 52 companies and organisations in the last three decades, according to the statement.
His business interests range from automobiles, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, electronics, food processing to bank and insurance. He is also the chairman of Rangs Group and Sea Resources Group.
The UKBCCI is the leading umbrella business organisation that aims to bring together and nurture successful British-Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in the UK and Bangladesh.
