Ananta Murder: Court accepts revised charge sheet by CID

A Sylhet court on Monday accepted the revised charge sheet submitted by CID accusing six people and recommending acquittal of 10 others in a case filed in connection with the murder of blogger Ananta Bijoy Das.

Earlier on January 18, the Criminal Investigation Department of police submitted a revised charge sheet in the case.

The Court of Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha on Monday accepted the charge sheet and set May 23 to hear on charge framing, said Advocate Moful Ali, public prosecutor of the court.

The charge-sheeted accused are Shafiur Rahman Farabi, 30, Mannan Yahya alias Mannan Rahi, 24, Abul Khayer Rashid Ahmed, 24, Abul Hossain, 25, Harunur Rashid, 25, and Faisal Ahmed, 27.

Farabi hailed from Rikabibazar of the city, Harunur from Sunamganj's Tahirpur upazila and the rest from Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet.

Of the accused, Farabi, Rahi and Abul Khayer are in jail, while Abul Hossain, Faisal and Harunur Rashid are on the run.

Arman Ali, inspector of CID and investigation officer of the case, submitted the first charge sheet on August 28 last year accusing five people and recommending acquittal of 11 others.

Later on October 28, the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Haridas Kumar ordered the CID to reinvestigate the case and submit a revised charge sheet.

Ananta Bijoy Das was hacked to death at Subidbazar in the city on May 12, 2015 on way to his office.

Banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team claimed responsibility of the murder through an online post.

Ananta's brother Ratneswar Das filed a murder case accusing some unnamed people with Sylhet Airport police the next day. The case was later transferred to the CID.
