2 Sylhet BCL men stabbed
Two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were hacked in front of Jalalabad College at Sobhanighat in Sylhet yesterday afternoon.
Sahin Ahmed, 22, student of Metropolitan University, and Abul Kalam Asif, 18, student of Madan Mohan College, are supporters of Abdul Alim Tushar, BCL Sylhet metro unit general secretary. Shahin was moved to Dhaka for better treatment while Abul was admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Abdul claimed that a group of Islami Chhatra Shibir activists carried out the attack when the BCL activists went to their former college.
Sohag Ahmed, president of Sylhet metro ward-23 unit of BCL, said BCL recently arranged an orientation programme for the freshers at the college. Shibir too wanted to arrange such a programme but failed. The attack was made to take revenge, he added.
Quoting witnesses, Kotwali police said some youths on some six motorcycles carried out the attack. Factional feud of BCL and establishing supremacy could be reasons for the attack, police speculated.
