A 10-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.

The suspected rapist was identified by the girl as Ratan, a youth who used to visit her family sometimes, her mother, a housemaid, told reporters at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday.

Around 10:00pm on Monday, Ratan met the girl and asked her to go to a local fair in nearby Arapara area with him. As she agreed, they went to the fair where he bought her some dry foods.

While returning, Ratan, however, took the girl to a nursery near Savar bus stop and raped her throughout the night, said the mother, adding, the girl was released in the morning.

Later, her family members took her to Savar Upazila Health Complex. She was shifted to DMCH for better treatment.

Contacted, SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station, said they have heard about the incident. Police were trying to arrest the suspect, he said.

Meanwhile, DMCH sources said the victim would be admitted to the One-stop Crisis Center at the hospital, once her condition improves.
