Marking the 105th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, seven-day programmes throughout Mymensingh began on December 29.

A daylong folk cultural festival, Loko-Sangskriti Utsab, was held at Tengorpara in Mymensingh, on December 28. Parbon, a cultural group, in collaboration with the Ekota Club in Mymensingh, organised the festival with the slogan, Loko Sangkritir Jagoron, Sampritir Unnayan, to promote cultural events in rural areas. It was the fourth edition of the festival.

Three years ago, on November 7, a street child came to Mousumi Ritu seeking alms. Little did the five-year-old now that her approach would melt the heart of Ritu, a master’s student at Gurudayal Government College in Kishoreganj town.

Thirty-five year old Sreedhar Das works as cobbler in Mymensingh city. Every year, on the occasion of puja celebrations, this young dhak (a percussive instrument) artiste plays the instrument at Puja mandaps, especially during Durga Puja.

Eighty-one year-old Narayan Chandra Das has been in his ancestral profession of manufacturing rhythmic instruments in Mymensingh for decades. He started working at the age of 11.

A painting competition for children was held at the auditorium of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala’s Art Gallery, recently. Khelaghar Ashor, Jatiya Shishu Kishore Sangathan’s Mymensingh unit, organised the competition.
