Police ignores complaint on assault of two women: tea plant workers
Police did not record a complaint on assault on two female workers of a tea garden in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar, according to workers.
Instead, they recorded a case filed by the authorities of the tea garden -- Doloi Tea Company Limited -- against the workers, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports.
Setu Roy, general secretary of the tea garden's panchayat committee, said two female workers were assaulted by the company's Assistant General Manager Khaled Manjur Khan during a scuffle between the workers and the AGM on August 19.
The workers on Friday went to Kamalganj Police Station to lodge a case in connection with the incident but they said they would not take any case regarding this, he added.
But now the workers came to know that a case was filed against 13 named accused and five to seven unidentified people, he further said.
Confirming the matter, Md Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kamalganj Police Station, said Sub-Inspector Sirajul Islam is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the workers staged a demonstration protesting the case around noon today, our local correspondent reports.
Pushpa Kumar Kanu, the prime accused of the case, told our correspondent the allegation brought against him in the case is false.
On August 19, he rescued AGM Khaled Khan and Manager Aminul Islam from confinement after the scuffle as instructed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashequl Haque.
According to the case, the accused workers vandalised a car of the company and snatched Tk 10 lakh from Manager Aminul Islam and assistant manager on August 19.
