15-day Jatra festival underway in Jhenidah

A jatra (folk theatre) festival opened at the district Shilpakala Academy in Jhenidah on Wednesday organised by  Jhenidah Shilpakala Academy and Aniket Jatra Shilpi Sangsad.

Jhenidah lawmaker Abdul Hye inaugurated the 15 day festival, presided over by Jhenidah Deputy Commissioner Zakir Hossain.

DC Zakir Hossain termed the festival a welcome initiative for the people of Jhenidah. "The event will make for greater discernment and build public opinion against obscenity and terror in society," he said.

Lawmaker Abdul Hye thanked the organisers for their initiative and assured   assistance for the event.

 Jatra troupes from Shailakupa, Kumarkhali, Jhenidah, Harinakundo and Kushtia are taking part in the festival, which is open for all and will continue till January 31.
