Kiron Chandra Roy's “Megh Jamini” released
Eminent folk music exponent Kiron Chandra Roy's latest album, “Megh Jamini”, was launched through a musical soiree at The Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct on Saturday. The album features eight songs of the Padabali Kirtan genre, an ancient folk music form of devotional nature. Journalist and poet Abul Momen unveiled the CD.
Kiron Chandra Roy also performed songs from the album, including “Madhob Bohut Minoti Kori”, “Shoi, Ke Ba Shunailo Shyamo Naam”, and “Roop Lagi Ankhi Jhure” and “Ke Bole Piriti Bhalo”. He also elaborated on the origins and musical style of Padabali Kirtan, adding that some of the rhythms used in Rabindra Sangeet originate from the compositions of Padabali Kirtan.
Among others, prominent violinist Sunil Chandra Das and flautist Moniruzzaman embellished the performance, which also included the traditional khol and kartal as musical accompaniments.
