Celebrations on Bhupen Hazarika's birth anniversary
A two-day (September 7-8)
celebration programme marking the 90th birth anniversary of legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika, is being held at National Theatre Hall auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). Friends of Bangladesh, Dhaka, BSA in association with Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust, Assam are organising the programme. Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh is sponsoring the programme.
With the theme “Traas Bhuley Danobere Naash Kori Aaye”, artistes of Bangladesh and India are performing songs and dance while eminent personalities are discussing of life and works of Bhupen Hazarika, a great friend of Bangladesh.
Asaduzzaman Noor, cultural affairs minister, inaugurated the event yesterday while Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Assam attended at the event as chief discussant. Liaquat Ali Lucky, DG of BSA, presided over the programme.
Dr. Gowher Rizvi, international affairs adviser to the Prime Minister, will attend today's (September 8) event as chief guest. ASM Shamsul Arefin, coordinator, Friends of Bangladesh, will preside over the programme. Folk music troupe Dohar (India) will perform songs this evening.
Meanwhile, singers and musicians from Bangladesh and India will come together to pay a special tribute to the doyen of music Bhupen Hazarika at an event in London later this month. The special concert on September 16 is being organised by social organisation Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (FASS) in collaboration with Nehru Centre, cultural wing of Indian High Commission in London, as part of the 90th birthday anniversary of Hazarika.
In addition to his native Assamese, Hazarika (September 8, 1926-November 5, 2011) composed, wrote and sang for numerous Bengali and Hindi films from 1930s to 1990s besides other songs. He was also one of the leading author-poets of Assam with more than 1,000 lyrics and several books on short stories, essays, travelogues, poems and children's rhymes.
