Renowned singer Fatema Tuz Zohra is known equally well for her Nazrul Sangeet renditions and golden oldies. The singer gave The Daily Star rare glimpses of how she spends her weekends:

“I don't know when a weekend comes and goes because Friday is not a weekend for me. Rather any day we are free is a weekend. I love to shop and cook. I enjoy shopping for vegetables while my children go for dry fruits and I always keep them at home. I bring various types of dates, nuts and spices from my trips abroad. My children love sausages, chicken salami... Again, we all jointly make plans for a trip or eating out.”

“Friday is a high pressure day for me... As it is a Jummah day, everyone remains busy. We cook special food. Some family members want to have khichuri while some love meat. I help prepare special dishes.”

“I love to read books on our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Besides that, I also love reading poetry. Nature attracts me a lot. I love to roam around hills and sea beaches. Fishing is my one of my favourite hobbies. I love angling.”

“I studied at Joypurhaat Girls School and College and later, at Rajshahi University (Economics). So I have many friends though I seldom meet them. I hardly hold instant musical adda at my residence. I always get immersed in rewaz and rendition of songs. This keeps me cheerful.”

The singer has performed holy Hajj this year. She shared her wonderful experiences while there.  “Muslims from all over the world assemble to perform holy Hajj. This is a union of souls. I had many great experiences when I was there. What mesmerised me the most were the rippling human waves towards the Holy Kaaba after the Azan of every prayer. I fondly and deeply comprehended the sublime compositions of our National Poet's composition of Hamd, Na'at and Islamic songs during my stay there.”
