Arms case against Regent Group chairman: recording statements of prosecution witnesses ends
A Dhaka tribunal today concluded recording the statements of prosecution witnesses in the arms case filed against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka ended recording the statements with cross-examination of DB Inspector Md Sairul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury.
The tribunal will record statement of the accused tomorrow.
In his statement, Sadbir said he recorded the statements of two witnesses -- Kazi Jahangir Alam and Hassan Mahmud -- after the investigation officer brought them to his chamber on July 21.
Sairul, in his statement, said he took charge of investigation of the case on July 19 and visited the place of occurrence the same day. Later he recorded the statements of 11 witnesses and submitted the charge sheet on July 30.
Later, both were cross-examined by lawyers on behalf of the accused.
Earlier nine prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case, gave their statements.
Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira when he was trying to leave the country on a boat.
He was later remanded in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 test results and charging patients for testing and treatment.
