Another Tongi factory worker dies of burn injuries

Another worker who sustained severe burns while melting iron at a steel mill factory in Gazipur's Tongi area early Friday, died at hospital this morning.

The deceased is Ripon Chandra Mahanta, 30, son of Binoy Chandra Mahanta of Rangpur's Ghoraghat upazila.

Ripon breathed his last around 7:00am while receiving treatment with 50 percent burn injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, its Resident Surgeon Partha Sanker Paul said.

With Ripon, two workers died in the incident so far. Dulal, 45, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Five workers of SS Steel Mills Ltd in Gazipur's Tongi suffered burn injuries while melting iron bars early Friday. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Contacted, Mizanur Rahman, firefighter of Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence, said fire service was not informed about the situation.

Emdadul Hosen, officer-in-charge of Tongi West Police Station, said police filed a general diary to enquire if the mill ensured proper safety measures for workers.
