97 Bangladeshis infected with coronavirus in Bahrain
At least 97 Bangladeshis have been tested Covid-19 positive in Bahrain, a Bangladesh mission official in the Gulf country said today.
Sheikh Mohammed Tauhidul Islam, labour welfare counsellor at Bangladesh embassy in Manama, said the number of the coronavirus infected Bangladeshis has been collected from Bahrain authorities two to three days earlier.
No death of Bangladeshis from coronavirus has been reported yet in Bahrain, he told this newspaper over phone.
Around 150,000 Bangladesh nationals are currently living in Bahrain, according to the Bangladesh mission there.
Construction sector comprises the biggest share of Bangladeshi workforce with involvement of about 70 percent of them.
Besides, Bangladeshis are also employed in various sectors including cleaning companies, driving, agriculture farms and plantation. Several thousand, both male and female, are also working as domestic help.
Tauhidul said about 2,000 Bangladeshis are in quarantine facilities at present. Some 10 buildings where many Bangladeshis live have been put under lockdown recently, he added.
As of today, Bahrain reported 1,973 coronavirus cases, seven deaths and 784 recoveries, according to worldometers.info.
