4 including constable arrested in Savar over allegation of extortion

Four people, including a police constable, were arrested on charge of extortion in Savar, Rapid Action Battalion said today.

The arrestees are: Mohammad Mominur Rahman (35), a constable of Ashulia Police Station; Mohammad AH Hamid (32); Md Wahed (40); and Mohammad Wazed Sheikh (23).

According to Rab-4 sources, one Nur Uddin alleged that some persons went to his pharmacy in Jamgarh area of ​​Ashulia around 11:00pm on July 25 and introducing themselves as members of Detective Branch of police extorted Tk 63,000 and demanded Tk 50,000 more from him.

Based on his allegations, the arrests were made during a raid at Nigar Plaza in Jamgarh area of ​​Ashulia, Rab sources said.

Rab members seized some locally made weapons, a microbus, one walkie-talkie set, a police ID card, a handcuff, 480gm of marijuana, police stickers and 190 yaba tablets from their possession, said Rab-4 (CPC-2) Acting Company Commander and Additional Superintendent of Police Jamir Uddin Ahmed.

Sixteen ATM cards of different banks, fake currency of Tk 37,000 and Tk 28,815 in cash, and 12 mobile phones were also seized from their possession during the raid.

Rab official Jamir Uddin said four cases were filed against the arrestees with Ashulia Police Station this morning for robbery, extortion, sale of drugs and possession of counterfeit notes.

Two of the cases were filed by Rab and two others were filed by plaintiff Nur Uddin.
