4 alleged drug peddlers killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight

Four drug peddlers were killed in a gunfight between two groups of traders in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early today, said police.

The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin (23) of Kharangkhali village, Mohammad Anwar (24) of Purba Maheshkhalia Para, Mohammad Ismail (25) of Satgharia Para, and Anwar Hossain (22) of Amtoli village.

On information, a team of policemen rushed to Pashchim Satgharia Para where two groups of drug peddlers exchanged gunfire over yaba trading around 4:00am, said Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-In-Charge Pradip Kumar Das.

Sensing the presence of lawmen, they fired at the police and escaped the scene, the OC added.

In self-defence, the policemen fired back and found four of the criminals bullet-hit, the police official said.

The four were rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, he added.

Fifty thousand yaba tablets, eight bullets and two firearms were seized after the incident.

The bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The process of filing three cases is underway.
