3 get death for raping female doctor in Rajbari
A court in Rajbari today sentenced three people to death for raping a physician in Sadar upazila of the district in 2018.
The convicts are: Rana Mollah (26), Hannan Sardar (28) of Mojlispur area and Mamun Mollah (22) of Dattapara area in the upazila, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting a public prosecutor.
Sharmin Nigar, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Rajbari, pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicts, said Public Prosecutor Uzir Ali Sheikh.
The court also fined Tk 1 lakh each, Uzir Ali Sheikh said.
According to the case statement, the victim (24), a resident of Mukshudpur upazila in Gopalganj, went to Goalanda Mor area under Sadar Upazila in Rajbari by a bus on February 23, 2018, to return to her village from Dhaka via Faridpur.
When the woman was looking for another bus in Goalanda Mor area around 7:30pm on the day, Rana Mollah, who was a buttery-run easy-bike driver, took her on his auto-rickshaw.
Mamun and Hannan were also on the auto-rickshaw. The trio took the woman in an isolated place and raped her.
Later, they called three persons over mobile phone, and they also raped her, said the statement.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-8) arrested Rana, Hannan and Mamun on February 24, after they got a complaint from the victim.
The victim filed a case against four with Rajbari Sadar Police Station on February 25, 2018.
Later, police submitted a charge sheet against six people including the trio.
After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found the three accused guilty and pronounced the verdict.
The court acquitted three other accused from the case as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.
