ICDDR, B hospital saves 20,000 lives a year

"The people of Bangladesh have come to rely on the ICDDR, B hospital for the treatment of diarrhoeal diseases. The hospital has earned a reputation for excellence that attracts patients from increasingly greater distances," he said.

He was addressing the inauguration of the stone-laying ceremony of ICDDR, B Hospital Building at its Sasakawa auditorium in Mohakhali.

The government has provided Tk 15 crore to International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) for construction of additional floors in its hospital building. The additional floor space will provide adequate facility to many diarrhoeal patients.

The Chairman of ICDDR,B's Board of Trustees Professor Terrence Hull and ICDDR,B Executive Director Dr David Sack also spoke.

The government is fully appreciative of the ICDDR,B role and is pleased to announce a contribution of Tk 15 crore as the government support for the construction of the five additional floors on top of the existing three-storied Hospital Building, Dr Mosharraf said.

The additional floors will allow ICDDR,B to provide patients with proper hospital facilities and allow producing specialised laboratories and it will be better prepared for outbreak investigations.

Later, a simple stone-laying ceremony was held at the rooftop of ICDDR,B's Hospital Building.
