5 killed in Savar road accident
Truck driver Parash Ullah, 40, and bus passenger Sona Banu, 80, were identified among the dead.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place on Nabinagar-Kaliakoir road at noon when a Gazipur-bound truck collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus from Pabna.
"Three of the bus passengers, including Sona Banu, and truck driver Parash Ullah died on the spot in the violent collision," says a witness.
Thirty-one passengers of the bus were injured in the accident. They were admitted to Gono Swasthya Hospital here. Of them, an unidentified injured man succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Police recovered and sent the bodies to the hospital morgue.
A case was filed.
Meanwhile, A man was killed and three people were injured in a road accident near the Staff Quarters in the district town early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim, 35, son of Abul Khayer of Sripur area in the town.
Witnesses said Karim, a hotel employee, was killed on the spot when a Rajbari-bound microbus from Magura knocked him from behind at about 5:30am while he was going to his work place on a bicycle.
Three passengers of the microbus were injured, one critically, as its driver losing control over the steering hit a roadside tree.
Of the injured, Jewel, 22, and Manjurul Hassan, 25, have been admitted to Sadar Hospital while Shahriar, 50, has been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police seized the microbus.
Our Correspondent from Kishoreganj adds: A jackfruit trader was killed in a road accident on Nandail-Karimganj road at Karimganj sadar upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as Azizul Huq, 23, of Fewra village at Dherai upazila in Sunamganj district.
Police said Azizul was killed when his jackfruit-laden truck skided of the road and fell into a ditch. The truck was going to Chamra river port at Karimganj upazila from Shealdhora Bazar at Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district.
