Tk 63 lakh Japanese grant for elderly people

To this effect, Japanese Ambassador Matsushiro Horiguchi signed a grant contract with BAAIGM Secretary General Dr Mahboober Rahman yesterday.

BAAIGM, which has been extending health care and welfare services to the older persons since 1960, received this grant for the Project for Modernisation of Hospital to Ensure Low Cost Treatment for Elderly People.

The objectives of this project are to modernise the hospital with latest medical equipment, so that better diagnosis and treatment can be possible for elder patients with low price.

BAAIGM hospital represents the only hospital for elderly people in Bangladesh. Last year 35,000 elder patients around Dhaka and from all over Bangladesh received medical treatment at BAAIGM hospital.

The elder patients will get treatment with modernised facilities and equipment with lower cost under the project.

In Bangladesh, 122 projects covering 102 NGOs have received grant amounting 7.9 million US dollar (approximately Tk 55 crore) under Japan's scheme, which have been significantly contributing to the efforts of the NGOs to promote social development at the grassroots level in Bangladesh.
