Gaibandha FFs boycott Independence Day reception
A number of freedom fighters of Gaibandha Unit Command boycotted Independence Day reception yesterday, as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) did not allow new unit convener to chair the function ignoring the decision of Central Command Council (CCC) of Freedom Fighters.
Protesting the incidence, they brought out a procession that paraded the thoroughfare of Gaibandha town and held a meeting at the Gaibandha Press Club.
The speakers at the meeting slammed the role of the DC in the reception in favour of some vested quarters as he introduced former convener Wahedunnabi Mintu as the incumbent one.
Mujibul Huq Chhana, the new convenor who was recognised by the CCC, immediately protested the move.
Soon there created pandemonium at Zila Parishad Auditorium. The agitated faction of freedom fighters instantly walked out of the reception and staged demonstration.
Later they held a press briefing at the Gaibandha Press Club where Chhana as incumbent convener and Abdul Mannan Sarker as upazila convener addressed.
