JU bodies cancel V-day programmes

Though the arrest of KM Wahidul Islam Wasim, a student of JU and a member of JMB suicide squad, is widely considered as a sign of JMB existence on campus, the university authorities did not get any further information. Instead, the authorities are discouraging the cultural activists to organise any programmes on security ground and in many cases refused to give permission.

The Jahangirnagar Students' Film Society and Jahangirnagar Theatre have already cancelled their scheduled programme while many others still wonder whether they should risk the life of the artists as well as the audiences.

The intelligence agencies on the campus have also been directed to keep a watch on some hard liner pro-BNP teachers on suspicion of having link with JMB. The madrasas and mosques in the villages nearby JU campus are safe JMB den where militants stay and get theoretical training, intelligence and local sources said.

"We are keeping a close watch on suspected students and teachers," said proctor Prof Sayed Kamrul Ahsan.
